Welcome to another edition of the Happenings in the Heights newsletter, your guide to weekend events in and around Boyle Heights and L.A.’s Eastside.
CicLAvia’s annual Heart of LA route returns to Boyle Heights this weekend, so service that bike of yours to enjoy the cooler weather as you ride from the Eastside through the core of LA on carless streets. Interested in supporting local eateries around the Mariachi Plaza Hub? The Boyle Heights Beat staff put together a handy guide of where to eat while you’re in the neighborhood.
Live nearby? You may be impacted by street closures and parking restrictions. We made another guide that answers your questions about everything parking-related during the CicLAvia weekend.
Come say hi to the Boyle Heights Beat staff and youth reporters at Mariachi Plaza between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to pick up our latest print edition and learn how community members are shaping local news.
And while you’re there, come say hi to the Boyle Heights Beat staff and youth reporters at the Mariachi Plaza Hub and to The LA Local, which powers Boyle Heights Beat, at the MacArthur Park Hub.
If you’re interested in local theater, check out the world premiere of Eléctrico at Casa 0101, a play that follows a white-passing electrician tasked with restoring power to a town shaken by racial tensions.
