A celebration this Sunday is set to mark the 150th anniversary of Boyle Heights.
The event, called “A Very Inviting and Commanding Position: Boyle Heights Turns 150,” will take place at the Homestead Museum in the City of Industry.
It will feature historical photos of the neighborhood over the years and discussions by speakers well-versed in its rich, diverse history.
One of L.A.’s oldest neighborhoods, Boyle Heights was established by William H. Workman, Isaias W. Hellman and John Lazzarovich in 1875. The community is named after Irish immigrant Andrew Boyle, Workman’s father-in-law.
At the event, attendees will hear from one of Workman’s descendants, as well as Homestead Museum Director Paul R. Spitzzeri, historian Rudy Martinez, and members of the Boyle Heights Community Partners and the Boyle Heights Historical Society.
You must RSVP to attend the all-ages celebration, which runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 30. The Homestead Museum is located at 15415 Don Julian Rd in the City of Industry.
Boyle Heights Community Partners and Boyle Heights Historical Society hope to host additional events later in the year in celebration of the milestone anniversary.
