
The California Endowment, a private, statewide health foundation, provides core support to Boyle Heights Beat. The California Endowment’s mission is to expand access to affordable, quality health care for underserved individuals and communities, and to promote fundamental improvements in the health status of all Californians. The California Endowment’s multicultural approach to health is reinforced through investments made in local communities. Its work involves a dual focus: grant making and policy and advocacy.
Elevate Youth California: Boyle Heights Beat is supported by Elevate Youth California through Proposition 64. The California Department of Health Care Services contracts The Center at Sierra Health Foundation to support the implementation of this program.

Institute for Nonprofit News & Google News Initiative: Boyle Heights Beat is funded through a fast-track grant for L.A. Fire Relief from the Institute for Nonprofit News , with support from Google News Initiative (GNI). This is part of a pilot program designed to keep critical information flowing during an emergency, GNI is providing grants to newsrooms covering the disaster from the ground.

LA2050 & Snap Foundation: Boyle Heights Beat is a 2024 winner of the LA2050 Grants Challenge. LA2050 is a community-guided initiative, operated by the Goldhirsh Foundation, driving and tracking progress toward a shared vision for the future of L.A. The Grants Challenge is an annual call for ideas to make L.A. the best place to connect, learn, live, play, and create. Boyle Heights Beat was selected by an external partner, the Snap Foundation, who supports projects that develop pathways to the creative economy for underrepresented youth in Los Angeles.

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation: This foundation is a donor-advised community serving the Silicon Valley region. The vast majority of grants distributed by SVCF throughout the year come from “advised funds,” including donor advised and corporate advised funds established at the community foundation by individuals, families and companies.

Stuart Foundation: The Stuart Foundation believes that well-resourced and inclusive public education systems underpin vibrant communities, productive and fair economies, and a functioning democracy. They believe schools should be places where all young people feel loved, engage in joyful learning, and are prepared for a purposeful and successful life.

Press Forward: Boyle Heights Beat received funds to close persistent coverage gaps in our community, thanks to funding from Press Forward, the nationwide movement to strengthen communities by reinvigorating local news. Learn more at pressforward.news.
USC Good Neighbor Campaign: Created in 1993, the USC Good Neighbor grant program provide financial support to university-community partnerships involving collaboration between USC faculty and staff and local nonprofit organizations that have a visible, positive impact on the neighborhoods surrounding the University Park and Health Sciences campuses. Supported partnerships strive to enhance educational opportunities, promote health and fitness, enhance public safety, and support economic development.
The Weingart Foundation: The Weingart Foundation is a private grantmaking foundation partnering with communities across Southern California to advance racial, social, and economic justice for all.
The Civic Space Foundation: Inspired by Manny’s, a civic gathering and event space in San Francisco, the Civic Space Foundation is a response to the growing need for people to come together in person, get civically involved in their communities, and support creative civic gathering spaces in the tough economic times after the pandemic. The foundation supports Boyle Heights Beat’s community events, bringing together Boyle Heights and East LA for deeper connection and more shared understanding.

We are committed to transparency in every aspect of funding our organization.
Accepting financial support does not mean we endorse donors or their products, services or opinions.
We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals, organizations and foundations to help with our general operations, coverage of specific topics, and special projects. Our news judgments are made independently – not based on or influenced by donors. We do not give supporters the rights to assign, review or edit content.
We will make public all donors who give $5000 or more per year. As a nonprofit, we will avoid accepting donations from anonymous sources, and we will not accept donations from government entities, political parties, elected officials or candidates actively seeking public office. We will not accept donations from sources who, deemed by our board of directors, present a conflict of interest with our work or compromise our independence.

Our organization retains full authority over editorial content to protect the best journalistic and business interests of our organization. We maintain a firewall between news coverage decisions and sources of all revenue. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their products, services or opinions.
We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals and organizations for the general support of our activities, but our news judgments are made independently and not on the basis of donor support.
Our organization may consider donations to support the coverage of particular topics, but our organization maintains editorial control of the coverage. We will cede no right of review or influence of editorial content, nor of unauthorized distribution of editorial content.
Our organization will make public all donors who give a total of $5,000 or more per year. We will accept anonymous donations for general support only if it is clear that sufficient safeguards have been put into place that the expenditure of that donation is made independently by our organization and in compliance with INN’s Membership Standards.
