A woman was shot and killed in front of Sunrise Elementary school early Wednesday morning, various news outlets reported.

The woman’s body was found on South Euclid Avenue near Whittier Blvd. with multiple gunshot wounds. Police told KTLA that she was found in the middle of the street with a purse, cell phone and keys and that the shooting does not appear to be gang related  or an attempted robbery.

The victim, a Latina between 30 and 40 years old, was not immediately identified.

Neighbors said they heard gunshots but didn’t see anything; one said he heard the victim scream for help.

KABC reported that kids and parents arriving at Sunrise Elementary school walked past the crime scene. School remained open during the investigation, but parents were asked to drop off students at the school’s Westside entrance, on  Camulos Street.

The Los Angeles Police Department said in a Tweet that LA School Police units were called to assist students and parents.
