A traffic stop Thursday night in East L.A. ended with an 18-year-old killed in a deputy-involved shooting.
The incident occurred just before 11 pm on the 300 block of S. Gerhart Avenue. According to a statement released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies had stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation. Authorities said one of two people in the vehicle got out and got into a physical altercation, and one of the deputies opened fire.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the victim, identified only as an 18-year-old Hispanic male, was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
