Sunday is the last day to avoid health coverage tax penalties. People without health insurance coverage, as mandated by the federal government, could be hit with a heavy tax penalty, EGP News reports. Those covered through a plan with their employer are recognized by the government.
That penalty could be as high as $969, a 47 percent increase from last year. The penalty, known as the “shared responsiblitiy payment,” applies to anyone who has not applied for health insurance by Jan. 31.
Boyle Heights has been recognized as a hot-spot for people without health insurance. In December 2015, thousands still had not signed up for coverage.
You can sign up for coverage at www.CoveredCA.com or by calling (800)300-1506.
