The Roosevelt High School Rough Riders fell to the Garfield High School Bulldogs 7-0 Friday at the annual East L.A. Classic. The Boyle Heights and East L.A. schools have been battling on the football field since 1925, and last week’s game was the sixth time Garfield has triumphed in the last eight years.
Rough Rider players, cheerleaders, homecoming royalty and fans showed no lack of spirit despite the loss. While Garfield got to hoist the trophy this year, Roosevelt still leads the series 40-32-6 in its 78-year history.
