A shooting in Boyle Heights on Monday left one man dead and sent another to the hospital.

Police told The Los Angeles Times gunshots were reported around 4 p.m. in the 900 block of South Bernal Avenue, a residential street near the busy intersection of Whittier Blvd. and Lorena Street. When officers arrived at the scene they found the two men shot: one was pronounced dead on the scene and the other was transported to a nearby hospital.

The identity of the dead victim was not immediately released and the condition of the injured man was not released. No suspect had been taken into custody Tuesday.

Several shootings have plagued the Eastside neighborhood in recent times, including drive-by shootings. The LA Board of Police Commissioners recently met in Boyle Heights to discuss the state of policing.
