A 26-year-old man remained hospitalized Tuesday after being shot early Monday near the Ramona Gardens housing development.
Police said the shooting occurred at 3:20 a.m. in the 2600 block of Medford Street. According to Captain Patricia Sandoval of the LAPD Hollenbeck division, the shooter remained at large and the incident was being investigated by a gang unit.
The male victim was shot in the forehead but was found breathing and conscious when police arrived. Although his condition was unknown Tuesday, Sandoval said the victim was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
The victim’s identity was not disclosed by police but a Ramona Gardens resident who did not wish to be identified said the young man lived with a relative in the public housing development.
Sandoval said officers in the Hollenbeck gang unit were working on several leads and should have a suspect arrested by the end of the week.
*Correction: An earlier version of this story stated the victim was a Ramona Gardens resident. According to sources, he is a relative of a Ramona Gardens resident.
