Boyle Heights’ Internet music and news station Radio Sombra debuted their new space shared with the independent music, book and art store Espacio 1839.
Radio Sombra is a community-based station originally housed at the Centro de Comunicación Comunitaria in Boyle Heights before they moved to their new location. Their programming is created by and for the community. Shows featured on the station concentrate on underground life in the east side of Los Angeles, highlighting art, music, books and community news.
The station’s goal is to provide accessible digital media to the community and offer residents a platform to easily share their stories with the neighborhood and the world. By having this new space where people can witness live broadcasts while walking on First Street, they hope to encourage community members to walk in and learn about new ways to share information.
This video is from the grand opening on Oct. 5.

Radio Sombra and Espacio 1839 are located at 1839 First St. Los Angeles, CA 90033
