Five days of holiday festivities are in full swing as Posadas de La Primera, Boyle Heights’ annual winter celebration, kicked off this week.

The event highlights cultural traditions with a pilgrimage walk to reenact the biblical account of Jesus’ birth. The First Street Community Businesses of Boyle Heights puts the event on.

Participating businesses for the week take turns hosting the “posada” each night.  Un Solo Sol and Street Tacos and Grill started on the 18th and 19th, with the remaining nights hosted Wednesday the 20th by J&F Ice Cream Shop, Thursday the 21st by Allstate Insurance and ending Friday the 22nd with The Garage Board Shop.

The posadas take place from 6 to 8 p.m. each night and are open to the public.
