A homicide in Boyle Heights from 2001 now has a suspect.
Alfredo Treviño, owner of La Cita Bar, was killed on Dec. 17, 2001 in his business located at 2471 Whittier Boulevard in Boyle Heights. The Los Angeles Daily News reports that Hugo Lara was charged with the murder earlier this month. He is already serving a 13-year prison sentence for a robbery in 2008. Lara allegedly stabbed Treviño 104 times.
It’s just one of five arrests or charges made this year in a backlog of thousands of unanswered homicide cases in Los Angeles County.
