Los Angeles County USC Medical Center

The man who was shot by police last week after trying to escape LAPD custody while being treated at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center has been charged in the kidnaping and rape of a teenage girl, KTLA reported.

In a release, the LA District Attorney said Freddy Bailón, 36, faces 10 felony counts, including kidnapping, making criminal threats, forcible rape and lewd act on a child.

Police officers shot Bailón after he broke free from custody, stole a car, and crashed just outside of Los Angeles County USC Medical Center.

The man was being escorted by LAPD Wednesday to the hospital for a medical examination. Police told KTLA that they took the suspect into custody Tuesday after he threatened a woman with a knife. They were taking him to the hospital for an examination and that’s when he ran away. He stole an SUV, crashed, and an officer shot him at the intersection of Zonal Avenue and Cummings Street.
