A man was shot and killed while parking his car Friday night in a lot at the Wyvernwood Apartments in Boyle Heights.
Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Raúl Sánchez Jr, according to City News Service. They said officers responding to a call at 11:15 p.m. to the 2800 block of Camulos Place –inside Wyvernwood– found his bullet-riddled body near his vehicle. Sánchez suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sánchez was reportedly parking his car when he was approached by a gunman who shot at him. Police told CNS the shooting appeared to be a gang-related incident
KTLA reported that during Friday night’s investigation, an officer was directed to a suspect with a gun and a foot chase ensued, but the officer lost track of the suspect.
This is the third fatal shooting at or near the Wyvernwood Apartments in less than 10 months. In September, 35-year-old Alejandro Díaz was killed in a gang-related “walk-up” shooting inside the apartment complex. And in March, 31-year-old José Fernando Arellano was shot and killed as he was getting into his car near the corner of East 8th Street and Fresno Street, right outside Wyvernwood.
Friday’s is the eighth shooting death reported in Boyle Heights in 2017.
