A man died Wednesday morning during a police pursuit in Boyle Heights after he was hit by a vehicle as he tried to run across the 101 Freeway.

The Los Angeles Times reports officers tried to stop the driver of a black Toyota SUV in connection with a stolen vehicle report. The driver drove away, exited Fourth Street in Boyle Heights, crashed, and ran into an embankment along the 101. He tried running across the freeway and that’s when he was hit and killed by a vehicle.

The driver, a 25-year-old male, was not identified.

The Times report the incident shut down all northbound lanes of the 101 at Fourth Street for three hours.
