The Hollenbeck Youth Center christened its new competition basketball court Saturday with the help of L.A. Lakers center Dwight Howard and over 70 youth players.
The new court, made possible by donations from the Lakers Youth Foundation and OneWest Bank Foundation, was quite necessary after four decades of wear and tear on the original court. Youth center president Daniel L. Hernandez and representatives of OneWest Bank were also present to dedicate the playing space.
The center is operated by Inner-City Games Los Angeles and the Hollenbeck Police Council, offering recreational, educational and entrepreneurial programs to disadvantaged and at-risk youth in Boyle Heights.
