The Fourth of July celebration again comes early to the neighborhood this year -the 12th annual Boyle Heights Concert & Fireworks Show will be held on Saturday, June 30th, at Hollenbeck Park.
The Afro Cuban band BombaChante will be the featured artist starting at 5 pm, with the lights show following at sundown.
The event presented by the City of Los Angeles and the office of Councilman José Huízar –in collaboration with Casa 0101 Theater- is traditionally held the weekend before the actual Independence Day holiday.
Fireworks season in Boyle Heights appears to begin as early as May, as reported in social media. This year, illegal fireworks activity was apparently ignited by the FIFA World Cup and consecutive wins or draws by the Mexican national team.
yes, @boyleheightsbt fireworks went off in #boyleheights when ?? scored that goal: it meant ?? classifies in second place despite loss to ?? what @JesseAHardman calls a true LA miracle #WorldCup2018

For the last few weeks, the Los Angeles Police Department has also taken to social media to remind residents that fireworks are not only dangerous, they’re illegal in the city Los Angeles.
Please make this a different type of year! Save your money and attend an event at either Hollenbeck Park or El Sereno Park on June 30th. Unfortunately the nightly fireworks are out of hand, neighbors are fed up and worst of all people get hurt! #theyareillegal #notworthit pic.twitter.com/WpNxfGV7pm
