Not One More Liquor Store

April 21, 2016 @ 5:45 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

The Coalition to Prevent Alcohol Related Harms in LA Metro (CoPALM) is holding a Community Forum in Boyle Heights to address the large number and concentration of alcohol retailers in Boyle Heights.

Following community efforts in 2012 (Boyle Heights Beat) that sparked an investigation by the Alcoholic Beverage Control, this forum is an opportunity for community members to hear what progress has been made in relation to reducing alcohol harms in Boyle Heights.

We have speakers from Councilmember Huizar’s office and the City Attorney’s office who will speak on their offices’ efforts to reduce alcohol harms in Boyle Heights and identify areas where we still need to do more. We will also have testimonials from community members who will talk about their experience with liquor stores and/or alcohol in their lives.

In addition to the speakers, CoPALM is working to pass an ordinance in the City of Los Angeles to put a cap on the number of off-sale alcohol licenses issued in high-need areas of the City. Part of the community forum will be dedicated to presenting the ordinance to the community and hearing their feedback on whether or not it would be a good fit for Boyle Heights.
