Spring is all about enjoying the outdoors. Gladly there’s plenty to do in celebration of Earth Day this weekend in and near Boyle Heights. From educational activities that teach you how to live green in L.A. to eco-friendly fun for the whole family.
If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, embarking in some gardening or perhaps joining a movement class under the sun, Proyecto Jardin will be hosting plenty of Earth Day workshops and classes Sunday.
Workshops include corn sowing, compost, vermiculture, candle making ($10-$25 fee) and more. Get your body moving with Capoeira, Danza Azteca and African Drums.

Choose from a variety of educational activities and a night of camping for the whole family at the annual Earth Day Latino taking place Saturday and Sunday at Los Angeles State Historic Park.
The event, organized by The William C. Velazquez Institute will offer tree planting, an LA river bike ride, drum circle and bonfire, music, food, presentations and more. Come prepared if you plan to camp, bring a picnic basket or buy lunch from Boyle Heights’ Un Solo Sol Kitchen.

And if you want to ride your bike to Earth Day Latino, Corazon Del Pueblo will be hosting an Earth Day Bike Maintenance Skill Share and fundraiser for Raices Roots Ride on Saturday that will conclude with a bike ride to LA Historic Park for a camp out. (bring camping gear).
Bring your bike and learn how to make adjustments with help from bike mechanics; view presentations on long-distance bike rides; discuss sustainability; and make jewelry and crafts.
Requested donations will cover materials and benefit Raices Roots Ridas, a group of cyclists embarking on a journey from Los Angeles to San Andres Itzapa in Chimaltenango, Guatemala.
