The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run accident near the intersection of Lorena and Eight Streets that left a cyclist dead on Friday night, several news outlets reported.
The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Police say the victim of the crash, Jaime Ramírez, was riding his bicycle southbound on Lorena between two traffic lanes before falling and getting run over by a big rig trailer that continued without stopping. The 24-year-old Maywood resident was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Originally, investigators said the truck driver may not have known he hit the cyclist. According to KTLA, the truck driver has been identified with the assistance of the trailer’s registered owner and is cooperating with investigators.
