Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar was questioned Thursday night by the L.A. Police Department following a car accident near East First and Boyle streets.
“Councilmember Huizar was involved in a minor traffic accident this evening near 1st and Boyle near his home in Boyle Heights,” Huizar’s communications director Rick Coca said in a statement late Thursday night. “LAPD gave the Councilmember a DUI sobriety test, which of course he passed. The Councilmember is glad that nobody was seriously injured.”
His office later confirmed that Huizar’s breathalyzer test registered a zero and that three cars were involved in the accident.
At the first media report on the incident at 7 p.m., Huizar’s city-owned Toyota Highlander was parked behind a Saturn with considerable rear-end damage. Other people involved in the accident have not been identified, but CBS Local said that one person was detained for allegedly driving under the influence and another was treated for minor injuries.
UPDATE 10/26/12 2:45 p.m.: LAPD Det. Gus Villanueva said the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. and that three vehicles were involved. The LAPD press and information office also confirmed last night’s statements from Huizar’s office that he did pass the sobriety test. Police have not released information on who was responsible for the accident.
