A hearing scheduled to take place at City Hall this week on the proposed $2 billion Wyvernwood Garden Apartments redevelopment plan was postponed for next month.
The Los Angeles City Planning Commission will review the proposal at a public hearing on June 20, where it could take a number of actions, before ultimately forwarding their recommendations to the City’s Planning & Land Use Management Committee (PLUM).
The project, proposed by developer/owners Fifteen Group, could potentially replace the approximately 1,200 units spread over 153 buildings with 4,400 housing units as well as condominiums, office and retail space.
The future of Wyvernwood has raised much controversy, dividing its residents and community members on the issue. Both supporters and opponents have shared their opinions at community events, neighborhood council meetings and City Hall.
Most recently, project opponents who wish to preserve Wyvernwood held a march on May Day that began within the housing units and ended at the steps of City Hall. This included Councilman Jose Huizar and his concerns over the already dense area in Boyle Heights.
