Several streets from Downtown Los Angeles to Venice Beach will close on Sunday, not for road construction but for another go at the car-free urban experience that is CicLAvia.
Since CicLAvia’s debut in 2010, sections of Boyle Heights have been included in the event’s route, where cyclists, walkers, skaters and anything in between take over city streets. However, this time around, “Ciclavia To the Sea” stretches 15 miles from downtown’s historic El Pueblo de Los Angeles to the Venice Beach boardwalk.
CicLAvia representatives have previously told Boyle Heights Beat the routes are varied to spread the benefits to as many communities and neighborhoods as possible.
Ciclavia is inspired by CiclovÃa in Bogotá, Colombia, where 70 miles of streets are closed to cars and opened to cyclists on Sundays and holidays. Much like Los Angeles, Bogotá also suffers from streets crowded with cars.

Take a break from the stressors of car traffic and enjoy the streets with a little bit of exercise.
Free and open to all ages; the only requirement is leave anything with a motor at home. Bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, scooters, strollers, wheelchairs are all welcome.
