An argument between two transient men Thursday night in Boyle Heights erupted into a stabbing that left one of them seriously injured. City News Service reports that the stabbing happened on Fourth Street near the 101 Freeway, around 7 p.m.

The news agency says a witness told police the two men might have been friends but they got into an argument before one man stabbed the other in the chest.

The victim was taken to USC Medical Center while the suspect fled the scene.
