This year marks the 70th anniversary of the annual Memorial Day commemoration at Boyle Heights’ All Wars Monument in Cinco Puntos.
As always, local dignitaries will join Eastside veterans in honoring their fallen comrades at a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 29 that will include a flyover by LAPD’s Air Support Division helicopters.
Scheduled to join members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4696 and its commander Tony Zapata are Councilmember José Huízar, County Supervisor Hilda Solís, Congressmember Lucille Roybal Allard and State Assemblymembers Jimmy Gómez and Miguel Santiago. Author Juju Sands will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
As has become an Eastside tradition, beginning Sunday at 10 a.m., local Veterans and supporters will stand guard in a 24-hour Vigil at the monument until Monday’s ceremony.
The All Wars Memorial (3300 E. César Chávez Ave.) is located where César Chávez, Lorena Street and Indiana Avenue meet –the famed “Cinco Puntos” or Five Points intersection that marks the border between Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles.
