Boyle Heights’ representative in the Los Angeles municipal government is calling President-elect Donald Trump a ‘tyrant.’ In a Tweet from City Councilman José Huízar, the councilman says:
We have tyrant as the President-elect. If we acquiesce to his falsehoods, we fall victim to tyrannical government. We should not let up.

LA Observed reports that Huízar is a liberal Democrat who was first elected in 2005. Huízar is an immigrant from Zacatecas, Mexico. Huízar is the first Mexican immigrant elected to the Los Angeles City Council. He immigrated to Boyle Heights with his parents when he was three years old and grew up in the neighborhood, where he still lives with his wife and children.
President-elect Trump campaigned on the promise of building a wall between the United States and Mexico and deporting undocumented immigrants. Trump’s rhetoric has caused tension in Boyle Heights and walkouts and protests erupted in the neighborhood following the General Election.
