Battery-recycling plant may face legal action
A study by South Coast Air Quality Management District recently released information on the high arsenic levels emitted by battery-recycling plant Exide Technologies. Affecting close to 110,000 people residing in the cities of Vernon, Boyle Heights and surrounding areas, possible legal action could be taken by the Los Angeles City Council if Exide does not establish public meetings in these cities and makes further efforts to reduce the amount of emissions released. Shooting death in Boyle Heights
Police believe the shooting death of a man in Boyle Heights last Thursday may be gang-related. Multiple shots killed the man found dead lying on the ground on Grande Vista Avenue and Eighth Street as a white four-door Honda was seen leaving. More at egpnews.com
Boyle Hotel gets award
The recently restored Boyle Hotel located on First Street and Boyle Avenue has won a Preservation Award by the L.A. Conservancy, the largest historic preservation group in the city. ‘Tamales de Puerco’ at Casa 0101 Theater
CASA 0101 Theater presents Tamales de Puerco (Pork Tamales), the story of an undocumented Mexican woman that sells tamales and must maneuver through three cultures after learning that her son is deaf.
