The Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council (BHNC) is calling candidates for its upcoming elections to be held on October 13, 2012. Candidate filings–including Vote by Mail Application– are open from August 13, 2012 through September 13, 2012.

Eligible candidates are those who reside, or own a business or property within the Boyle Heights boundaries (North: Marengo Street, South: 25th Street, East: Indiana Street, West: L.A. River), or have a vested interest in the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council on a factual basis.

All seats on the board are open for these elections. Detailed information for Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council elections and Candidate Filing Forms can be found online at http://empowerla.org/bhnc/boyle-heights-nc-elections/ or by visiting BHNC.net.

The Candidate Filing Form can be submitted four different ways:
1) file online
2) download the pdf form and mail to

The purpose of neighborhood councils is to promote more citizen participation in government and make government more responsive to local needs (Los Angeles City Charter, Article IX). Per the BHNC bylaws, the purpose of the BHNC shall be to promote a more vibrant community in the Boyle Heights neighborhood by establishing an open line of communication between the BHNC, the government and other neighborhoods.
