A statewide Amber Alert for a 2-year-old boy was issued Friday after he was allegedly kidnapped by his biological father in Boyle Heights.

Around 6:30 a.m., police responded to a call at the1000 block of Lorena Street, where the child’s mother claimed her ex-boyfriend, Abraham Vargas, had taken their child and her vehicle, according to a press release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

They boy, who has been identified as Edwin Vargas, was sitting inside the vehicle when Vargas approached, pushed the mother away from the vehicle, and drove off with the child inside, the LAPD release states.

KTLA reports the vehicle that Vargas was thought to be driving was found unoccupied in East Los Angeles.

The mother shared with police that she had full custody of the child and a restraining order against the suspect. It is believed Vargas will be heading towards the Mexican border.

Edwin Vargas is 2 feet tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a red sweater and blue sweat pants.

Abraham Vargas is described as a 26-year-old male Hispanic, 5 foot-6-inches, and weighs approximately 180 pounds.

He was driving an orange 2004 Nissan Quest with tinted windows and damage on the drivers’ side. The vehicles license plate is 7CIN189.
