Boyle Heights runners, joggers, and walkers will race in a 5k run this Saturday starting and ending at Mariachi Plaza. The Boyle Heights 5K Run/Walk & Munchkin Fun Run to benefit the Variety Boys & Girls Club happens this weekend. A festival encouraging healthy lifestyle featuring cooking demonstrations, obstacle courses for kids, and music will accompany the community run.
Over 1,000 runners are expected to participate in the race. The fastest male and female runners will receive an Apple Watch. The first 40 people to finish the 5k will earn a medal and additional medals will be given to the top three finishers in each age category.
The run’s route on portions of 1st Street and César Chávez Avenue will be closed off to traffic during the duration of the runs, approximately from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
