Nearly 10,000 toys were distributed Saturday as part of the 32nd annual “Miracle on 1st Street” Christmas Toy Giveaway at the Hollenbeck Youth Center in Boyle Heights.
Families began lining up and camping out as early as Thursday for a chance to participate in the inner city’s largest toy giveaway. Children and their families enjoyed playtime in the snow, an appearance by Santa Claus, food and entertainment that stretched for three blocks.
Among those participating in the toy giveaway were actors Tom Arnold and Dax Shepard, L.A. District Attorney Jackie Lacey and L.A. City Council member Gilbert Cedillo.
The event is hosted each year by the Inner City Games Los Angeles, the Hollenbeck Police Business Council and the youth center.
