Los Angeles is running out of 323 phone numbers. All available 323 phone numbers are expected to be used up by March 2018, says the California Public Utilities Commission. Starting in November 2017, if an east sider needs a phone number, they could end up with a 213 code.
KPCC reports that 213 serves mostly downtown LA and was introduced in 1947 while the 323 debuted in the late ‘90s.
The 323 area code currently serves Boyle Heights and other parts of LA as well as surrounding cities including Alhambra, Bell, Bell Gardens, Beverly Hills, Commerce, Cudahy, Glendale, Hawthorne, Huntington Park, Inglewood, Lynwood, Maywood, Montebello, Monterey Park, Pasadena, Rosemead, South Gate, South Pasadena, Vernon and West Hollywood.
